Grants begin flowing to Morris flood victims Dailyrecord.com

Two FEMA workers walked down Riveredge Road in Lincoln Park last week, handing out flyers, alerting neighbors that federal grant money was available to help some of them because Morris is one of a dozen New Jersey counties declared a federal disaster area following the March 13 flooding. Six other FEMA workers manned the Disaster Recovery Center on Boonton Turnpike, helping people get information about their applications and giving them advice about what to do about future floods.

FEMA officials say they already approved $7 million of grants across the state for 2,952 households, including $622,783 for 230 homes in Morris County. They have received more than 6,500 applications statewide and most are still being processed.

Morris County Emergency Management Coordinator Scott DiGiralomo said last week that 4,000 homes across the county were affected by the floods, with an estimated $4 million of damage. Half of those homes were in the Passaic River basin flood zone, 1,000 apiece in Pequannock and Lincoln Park.
